The Ambassador of the Republic of El Salvador Julieta Anabella Machuca y Machuca presented her Letters of Credence to President George Vella at the Presidential Palace, Valletta.
During the ceremony, President Vella stated that bilateral relations between Malta and the Republic of El Salvador have always been good since they were established two decades ago. On the broader level, he observed that in the current turbulent geopolitical scenario, it is very important that the European Union continues to strengthen its ties with partners like El Salvador. The EU has been a steadfast promoter of economic growth, democracy, and stability in Central America, and Malta continues to support closer engagement between the EU and El Salvador. Moreover, Malta greatly values the constructive EU-CELAC relations to explore mutual political, economic, humanitarian, social as well as cultural engagement in the face of emerging challenges.
The Ambassador noted that positive momentum is required to strengthen mutual cooperation on issues such as regional integration and sustainable development, among others. She explained that El Salvador has undergone deep economic and social reforms which also served to greatly improve the security situation in the country. Ambassador Machuca y Machuca gave an overview of El Salvador’s status of relations with neighbouring countries.
