The Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia, Zouheir Bouras, presents his Letters of Credence to the President of Malta

PRESS RELEASE BY THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT

The Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia, Zouheir Bouras, presented his Letters of Credence to President George Vella at the Presidential Palace, Valletta.

President Vella observed that throughout their fifty-seven years of excellent bilateral relations, Malta and Tunisia have always found common ground working on political exchanges, trade, and on matters of regional policy. For Malta, Tunisia is an immediate neighbour and crucial partner in the Mediterranean. As a European Union member state, Malta looks forward to observing closer collaboration between Tunisia and the Union, especially in matters pertaining to migration and trade, and based on the full observance of democratic principles and fundamental freedoms.

On his part, the Ambassador underlined appreciation of Malta’s longstanding support in the European Union, with a consistent policy of keeping Tunisia at the fore of the EU’s Mediterranean policy. He also gave an overview of his plans to consolidate trade relations between the two sides.

The latest developments in North Africa and the Middle East were discussed with particular focus on the Israel-Hamas war, and the disastrous humanitarian scenario in Gaza.
